The ‘Vahalkada’ of the Kasagala Raja Maha Vihara was inaugurated by the President.

The function was held at the Kasagala Raja Maha Vihare to mark the 2600th Sambuddhatva Jayanthi under the patronage of the President. The President inaugurated the new main entrance and handed over the renovated Dharmashala to the Maha Sangha. The President also launched the first in the series of model Pirivenas expected to be set up in the Southern Province. The Pirivenas will provide language education required by Buddhist monks to propagate Buddhism in foreign countries. The President was also presented the blue print for making the Kasagala Raja Maha Vihara premises a sacred site. Members of the Maha Sangha led by the Deputy Chief Sangha Nayaka of the Southern Sri Lanka, Chief Incumbent of the of the Situlpahuwa Raja Maha Vihara Ven. Mataramba Hemaratana Thera, Viharadhikari Ven. Thalamporuwe Indrasiri thera, Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa and Ministers Mahinda Amaraweera, and Jagath Balasuriya participated in the occasion.
